Then read, "Who Moved My Cheese", by Spencer Johnson, M.D. The story is told through the lives of two mice (Sniff and Scurry) and two "little people" (Hem and Haw) all trapped in a maze. The four characters find cheese; they like it so much, day after day, they return for more. When the foursome discovers that the cheese is gone, the mice go off through the maze in search of more cheese. The people, who had not taken notice of the dwindling supply, were upset, angry and confused when they realized their treasure was gone. After sitting and waiting for the cheese to return, and getting hungrier by the hour, Haw, as frightened as he was, decided he had no alternative but to venture into the maze in search of more. As he ventured through the maze he wrote life lessons on the walls: "Change Happens. They keep moving the Cheese." "Anticipate Change. Get ready for the cheese to move." "Enjoy Change. Savor the adventure and enjoy the taste of the new cheese!" Hem, unfortunately, refused to go with Haw.</p> <br> <p>By the title, you might think that "Who Moved My Cheese" was a children's book; and perhaps for those of us who are unsettled by change, one might avoid reading such a "simple" book.
