Q. I just started a new business and don’t know which forms of advertising are the best for me. Can you help?
A. Of course, it depends on what type of business you have; but, depending on your budget, try different forms such as print newspapers, community papers, specialty papers, radio, web site. Make sure you have some way of tracking the response of each. for example, have consumers bring in the coupon, have them fill out a form and ask how they heard about you etc.
Q. My best friend and I want to go into business together. My family tells me that it is not a good idea. What should I do?
A. Every situation is different. In general, I advise people to steer clear of working with friends or family. You can lose more than your business if things don’t work out. On the other hand, if you trust the person and know how the two of you work together and react to each other, then maybe it can work. Good luck!
Q. I want to be my own boss. Can you suggest a part-time business I can work out of my home?
A. There are so many legitimate businesses you can work full/part time from home that I would need to have more information before I answer. Questions like, what interests do you have, abilities, experiences, the amount of time you want to spend on it, do you want to work alone or have others work for/with you, etc. Write back when you can answer these.
