USB Ports
USB is a way for your computer to connect to external devices.
It's fast, easy to use, and allows you to use tons of devices all
strung together. Most newer computers have one or more USB ports.
Older computers have USB 1.0 or 1.1, while newer PCs have the
faster USB 2.0
Speed issues aside, one of the big advantages with a USB device
is that it can be plugged in while your computer is running. When
you do, Windows automatically "sees" the device and you're all
set to go. If it's a first time run, Windows simply asks for the
device's setup disk.
If you’re thinking about getting a digital cameral, this is
definitely the way to go. But how do you find out which type of
USB port you have?
It’s not too hard to find out if your PC has Hi-Speed (USB 2.0)
or not. Right click "My Computer" select "Properties" (or from
Control Panel go to "System" then select the "Hardware" tab.
Locate and expand the Universal Serial Bus section.
If it shows an "Enhanced" USB Host Controller, then you have USB
2.0 capability. If not, then you have the slower USB 1.0 or 1.1

*** 5 Secret Strategies For Massive Affiliate Success ***
by: Ewen Chia (copyright 2004)
Would you want a simple way to make mon'ey like crazy, using
other people's time, expertise and effort?
If you do, tap onto an online income strategy commonly known as
affiliate marketing.
It's where you can reap constant profits without your own
product, and without even being an expert in the market you're
promoting to.
However as ideal as affiliate marketing is as a mon'ey
generating strategy, most affiliates are doing it all wrong.
This leads to most of them not making a good enough income to
justify belief and motivation.
As a top affiliate marketer, I've gone through these same
mistakes when I first started out. Here are some of the RIGHT
things to do if you want to sell more affiliate products and
become a power (or super) affiliate!
Apply these 5 secret strategies to power-charge your affiliate
marketing business and put it on the right track to success.
These are especially crucial if you've wandered off track
unknowingly?
(1) Zoom Right Into The "Hot Zones"
You can't sell to everybody. Success comes when you're able to
identify and pinpoint the correct market with the purchasing
power.
Seek a targeted group of people who already wants to buy, and
align this to your interest and passion. Spot these "hot zones"
out and sell to them. Simply put, the solution is to zoom into
mini markets within the general main market.
This is an idea similar to niche marketing except what you want
are - sub-niches.
Use a tool like goodkeywords.com to fire in on the "hot zones"
or sub-niches in the market. Look for people who are already
looking for products to solve their problems by using
qualifiers like 'learn', 'buy' and 'find'.
For example, wouldn't a big market like golfers have "hot
zones" like people who are specifically looking for used golf
clubs? Do they have the mon'ey to buy?
Another excellent resource I can think of is AdWord Analyzer
which really drills into the heart of these "hot zones". You
can find it here:
==> http://www.l1nk.com/urr/awa.html
(2) Create Multiple Small Lists To Serve Your "Hot Zones"
Every super or power affiliate has his/her own opt-in list.
Marketing to your own lists is like having the power to print
mon'ey on demand anytime you want. What I'm saying is: you need
to have your own lists.
The trick here again is to build super-segmented lists serving
different groups of people who are willing to spend.
The more targeted the lists, the more affiliate sales you'll
make. Here's a site of mine using this principle in action:
==> http://www.MarketingEbookReview.com
(3) Promote Key-Focused Programs
Similarly you can't promote every program. Power affiliates
know how to seek out the best programs, and focus on promoting
these key programs.
Create a portfolio of affiliate programs you can depend on.
Base your selection process on their product quality,
conversion rate, commission structure and reputation (to name a
few). Promote these same products repetitively and you'll get
results. Why? Both you and your prospects will get to know the
products better!
One word of advice is to promote only quality products you've
reviewed or used yourself as nothing's worth a quick buck if
you lose your credibility.
(4) Understanding The Sales Psychology
This is where most affiliates totally miss out on. Have you
asked yourself why people buy things?
This is crucial, even if you're marketing to your own lists.
You need to understand the sales psychology behind human
behaviours, you need to know your "hot zones" and how to wow
your customers. People buy because they need to solve specific
problems, fill their wants or experience an emotional ride.
What problems or needs does your market have that you can
fulfill? Why is this important?
Know which hot buttons to press and you can create killer copy
to effortlessly sell tons of products, whether by webpage or
e-mail.
If you're a 'bad' copywriter and need a system to create
winning copy, here's one tool that can make it much quicker and
easier for you:
==> http://tinyurl.com/2lp2t
(5) Go for recurring commissions
Effectively leverage your promotions by earning multiple
streams of recurring commissions from one-time efforts. Meaning
choose to get paid every month even if you stop promoting a
particular program. These recurring profits can then be
re-invested back into your business for further growth. Your
focus should be on residual affiliate products and services
such as:
==> Hosting: http://tinyurl.com/24qq7
==> Internet marketing solutions: http://tinyurl.com/2hpel
==> Lead generation : http://tinyurl.com/ypj6s
It's easy to earn massive affiliate income if you know what to
do. Use the above 5 secret strategies to kick start your
affiliate marketing business into success immediately!

Five Elements of Uncommon Productivity
By Dr. Freddy Davis
Who Wants it the Most
I love sports. I have been playing and watching various sports most of my life. I am also a student of human motivation. There is an interesting phenomenon that I have observed over and over again. It happens on the team level and on the individual level. Sometimes it is not the most talented team or person who wins out.
I remember observing this as far back as high school. There was a young man on our football team who had great talent. He was strong and he was fast. But, he also had a lazy streak. As it turned out, he never lived up to his potential because he would not put his whole being into what he was doing. I ended up playing more than he did, even though he was more talented.
On the team level, I was recently watching my college alma mater play football. They were playing a team that was acknowledged by all to be a lesser opponent. But, we got thumped. Somehow, on that day, the other team had a motivation to perform that my team didn't have.
So, what is it with the sports illustrations? Well, hopefully you already recognize that this is not, simply, about being better in sports. It is about productivity in general. What can be applied to increase productivity in one realm of life, can be transferred to any other.
What does it take to be productive beyond what other people are doing, or beyond what you have been able to do in the past? I am sure you recognize that if you can get a handle on this secret to success, you will have the tools to personally advance beyond those who do not know the keys.
Five Essential Underlying Elements for Uncommon Productivity
Productivity is not a skill in the common sense of the word. It is the outward expression of something that is within a person on a more fundamental level. It is the outworking of attitudes, feelings, and habits that have been formed over the course of an entire life. If these inner bubblings are directed in a positive direction, as it relates to a particular activity, you are likely to be productive in that activity. If they are negative, you are likely to be unproductive.
Even though productivity, itself, is not a skill, there are skills that can be developed which will help you become more productive. But, before we ever get to the skills, it is necessary to have a mind set that supports productivity. What, exactly, does that mind set look like?
Motivation Comes from Within
The first thing that must be recognized is that the impetus for "uncommon productivity" must come from inside the individual. There are basically two sources of motivation. One is outward and the other is inward.
Outward motivation requires some kind of outside force pushing you in the direction of productivity. This does not mean that an outwardly directed person cannot be productive. In fact they can be very productive, at least in the short term. It is the situation that exists with a boss who is constantly harping on quotas, the manager that keeps on threatening a person's job security, the parent who bullies the child to conform or the teacher who intimidates his students into compliance. Outward pressure certainly can work, but in the long term people who have to be pushed will struggle with personal satisfaction and will ultimately become less productive, or even quit. There comes a time in everyone's life when the outside force just isn't there.
Inward motivation has an entirely different effect. It does not require the pressure of an outside motivator to generate productivity. The only need for outside supervision is for training and quality control. The desire to produce is already in place. When this can be achieved, satisfaction will be high and productivity will not even be an issue.
The Desire to Be Productive Is Based on the Immaterial
You may think that your material incentives are the driving force of productivity, but in one sense this is not true. That is not to say that incentives are not helpful. They are. But the real motivator is not some material advantage. Rather, it is some underlying immaterial item that the incentive represents. People want more money, but usually not because they have this love affair with green paper. They want what is can do for them. They want the convenience of a new gadget or the prestige of a new car.
Anyone who tries to base productivity incentives strictly on material things is, at best, shooting in the dark. Occasionally they may hit on something that catches a person's imagination, but will more often miss. If you want to really get at the productivity triggers, you will have to find out what the inner motivators are and structure the incentives to meet the inner immaterial elements.
The Inner Guidance System Moves Toward a Goal
People are never "sitting still" as it relates to their motivations. We are either moving toward or away from something.
The "away from" movement is rarely intentional. When we perceive that we are in danger or under pressure or simply uncomfortable, we will, even without thinking, move away from that negative thing. It tends to be a reaction, not a planned action. As a result, the end product of that move is unknown and unpredictable.
The movement "toward," however, has a greater likelihood of being intentional. We perceive something that we like, or want, and develop a plan to go get it. This inner desire is our motivation and is the impetus for greater productivity. Find the goal, or reasons, for doing a particular activity and you will never have any problem getting up to do it.
If you are trying to motivate other people, the lesson is to give them a clear goal that will snatch their imagination. Once you have that hook in them, they will move heaven and earth to make it a reality.
There Is Continual Growth
The image of the "couch potato" is of one who is lying on the couch watching TV with his bag of chips and bottle of soda within easy reach. There is no incentive to get up and do anything that might be productive. There is no movement toward growth except, perhaps, for growth around the waistline. This person may have a job, may do the job and may receive a steady paycheck week to week. However, you can bet the farm that this is not a person who is actively seeking ways to improve job performance and production.
Uncommonly productive people are those who have instilled the habit of personal growth into their lives. They are not satisfied with the status quo. They want something more and they want something new. They want to begin at the cutting edge of their lives and move on from there. They are always probing and exploring new possibilities.
If you find people with this trait, one tendency might be to try to rein them in. Fight the urge! You may have to carefully direct and monitor their work, but don't stifle their creativity. In the long run, you will end up with new and better ways to get the work done.
Life Is Fun
People don't work hard on things that are repulsive to them, at least not in the long term. The most productive people are those who like what they do. Somehow, they are able to take the task at hand and turn it into an adventure. This is strictly an internal mechanism. Think about it. There are things that you hate to do that someone else finds fascinating and exhilarating. The reverse is also true.
This attitude is not limited, however, to things that you already find interesting. It is possible to develop new interests - even with things that you formerly found uninteresting.
When I was in college, I had no desire to study humanities. I perceived it as boring and useless. But it was a required course and I had to take it whether I liked it or not. So, I decided to give it my best effort. I looked for ways to make it interesting and ended up enjoying that class beyond my wildest expectations. It was certainly not because the subject had changed, but because I had found a way to make it fun.
Making it More than Academic
The productivity mechanisms listed above are powerful. But, if you are wanting to make yourself, or your subordinates, more productive, it is not enough to simply know the inner workings of productivity. It has to actually be worked out in life. And the "working out" part is not simply the acquisition and implementation of new skills - at least not physical skills. It has more to do with the growth and development of the inner self. It requires the attainment and implementation of personal development skills. It is a matter of realizing who you are and what makes you tick. It requires looking at the inner, non-material, factors that move you to action. It requires having goals that drive you forward. It means developing an attitude that "lives to grow" in order to become more than you already are. Finally, it requires the ability to find the fun in it.
Working on the inner self to affect the outer self is not something that just happens. It is a journey that begins where you are and continues throughout the rest of your life. If you are not willing to make that commitment, you have already eliminated yourself from the ranks of the uncommonly productive. But if you have decided that this is a route you want to pursue, you already have the tools to begin making it happen. You have the ability to focus your mind, body, emotions and spirit to create the inner drive that will make you uncommonly productive. All that is left is to discover and implement the tasks involved in your particular situation. Productivity or uncommon productivity? What will it be?

Which of These 7 Mistakes Are You Making In MLM?
By Joe Schroeder
You've done it. You've signed up with a network marketing company. You're ready to get started with your teams advertising system. You're ready, set, go. All the ads hit, you're excited. Like a kid who can't wait to go to Disney World, you wait for the responses to pour in.
After 2-3 days... Nothing.
Why didn't anyone respond?
Don't worry. You're not alone. Matter of fact, this is a common scenario in MLM. People get jazzed, sign up with their uplines co-op, fire off a few hundred emails, get the postcards, and nothing comes of it.
Marketing experts they are not. You, of course, are smarter than that, which is why you're reading this special report right now. You want to know the top 7 mistakes people make in MLM, and you want to know the solutions to them.
Here they are:
1.) ** Using "Institutional Advertising" **
Institutional advertising is advertising that does not focus on your prospects. Rather on you, your company, your pay plan, your products, your bonus pool, your packaging, or the sales people at the home office.
Anything that does not focus solely on your prospect is institutional advertising. Think of Coke-A-Cola. That's institutional advertising. Their sole purpose is brand their name into your mind. That way when you get thirsty and want a soda, you buy a Coke.
You must focus on your prospects ego and their desires. What they want takes priority over what you or the MLM company you're with wants. Tell them what's in it for them.
Solution: Create prospect focused advertising and drop your ego and appeal to the prospects ego.
2.) ** Fell Into Management Mode **
This one is a biggy. In order to make money in network marketing (or in direct selling) the life blood is new business. For the first 2-3 years new business is what drives your income.
If you spend all of your time managing people and none of it actually acquiring new business you'll fall into a mode where your income levels off or just drops. This is management mode and it will stop you dead in your tracks from making long term income from MLM.
Solution: Always be moving forward, building your group. Leading by example. By building.
3.) ** Making MLM Your Business **
One of the most sobering and completely real facts of MLM is that you do not own your own MLM business. At any moment in time the network marketing company you're with could shut it's doors, change it's policies, cut the popular products (not likely, but happens) or any number of things that would instantly stop your income or cut it by 50%.
Making MLM your business limits you. Stops you from seeing all of the possibilities outside the MLM industry. Instantly turning your income into something that is in reality, not yours. Make MLM a part of your business. Not the sole reason it exists.
Solution: Expand your business into other areas. Not just MLM.
4.) ** Not Being Personal **
MLM takes time, money, more time and more money to develop. As does any profitable business. However, in the day of emails, fax machines, web sites, online video, and super technology, it is easier than ever to forget you are working with real live people with real live problems and worries.
Adding a personal touch to the process will build your credibility, and build trust with those you plan on working with.
Solution: Add a personal touch and build trust
5.) ** Not Being Realistic **
Technology makes it easier for you to contact more and more people at an ever growing rate. Which leads some people to hype up their claims. Hyped up claims are not always so outrageous they instantly appear full of hype.
Some of them are subtle, like, "No direct selling." Which seems like a benefit, because people hate to sell. In truth, direct selling is network marketing. You are not as aggressive about it. But you will, and always be selling something to someone.
Solution: Be Realistic and understand network marketing is a selling business.
6.) ** Losing Focus **
Losing focus is easy. Thousands of ways to advertise and reach your market exist. Pick 1 or 2 or 3 of them. Not all of them. Focus on what works, and drop what doesn't. If you know it's not working after a few weeks, don't do it anymore.
Truly effective advertising works in just a short time. Not 3 years. Save yourself time and money and find an alternate way to reach your market once the way you're using proves itself to be ineffective.
Solution: Focus only on one, two or three advertising strategies at time. And focus on them until they prove to be ineffective.
7.) ** Becoming a Computer Jockey **
A Computer Jockey? What's that? Computer Jockey's are people who sit there in front of their computer and try to work their MLM business completely online. 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
This is just insanity. While the world wide web does offer more affordable ways to reach your market. It isn't the only game in town and placing print ads and sending sales letters to people offline is not only effective, but sometimes more effective.
Solution: Try advertising offline as well to expand your reach.

CAN ONE PERSON MAKE A DIFFERENCE AT A TRADE SHOW?
THE POWER OF ONE
By Julia O'Connor
There is much discussion about one-to-one marketing.
That's where we, as the company, are supposed to know everything we can about you, the customer. And, we're supposed to take action on this knowledge so that you - the customer - are exceptionally pleased and become fiercely loyal to us, the company.
Wonderful, you say.
That works when I have customers who give me information, an up-to-the-minute database, and a customer service staff who care and can follow up.
But a trade show is different, you say. Too many people. How can I ever get that one-to-one feeling? At a trade show, you have the golden opportunity to practice one-to-one marketing.
You have people in your industry coming to you for information. It's the best time to gather market intelligence. You ask them questions. You search for trends. You hear about problems. Better, your company can solve problems!
But what happens?
You get boastful. You get busy. You get bored. You think your appearance at a trade show is just a short time and nobody remembers you.
These may be your three worst assumptions
IF YOU DO NOT ASK THE QUESTION, they will tell you.
Wrong. You need to know what you need to know before you go. Listen carefully for trends. Sometimes people do not know the right questions to ask you, so help them by rephrasing your questions to them. Remember, you are the expert for your company and should have the answers without appearing to be a know-it-all.
IF THEY PASS YOU BY, they will come back.
Wrong. Attendees set their agendas before the show and allow little extra time for retracing their steps. Generally you have just one opportunity to attract their attention and engage them. On the other hand, sometimes a visitor will pass you by the first time because you are on the short list.
IF YOU ARE BORED, they will understand.
Wrong. Visitors are tired, hungry and want a quick solution. They have no sympathy for you. They assume you are doing a job. How you appear and how you treat them on the floor is a reflection of your company. And that is they way they assume you will treat them if they become your customer.
In essence, one-to-one-marketing takes place on the floor. That's where you get to earn trust with a handshake.
Enjoy Your Next Show!
Julia O'Connor - speaker, author and consultant - says "If you liked field trips as a kid, you should love trade shows. Done right, trade shows give you a fleeting but intense overview of an industry. Of course, if you play all the time, you won't learn a whit." While consulting with clients, Julia has learned to speak a little polymer, chemical and pharmaceutical. A little railroad. A lot of finance, real estate and insurance. And, due to her research skills and broad understanding of business, is quick to pick up other industry languages.
Trade Show Training, inc. (TSTi) is Julia's third business in the trade show industry. She has designed, manufactured and repped exhibit systems and displays. And through the years, she realized that often the impression attendees had of a company was not the fancy exhibit or graphics, but the guys who stood in the booth - and didn't know why they were there. Thus began her study of the psychology of the trade show environment, and turning reluctant participants into knowledgeable, enthusiastic staffers. She teaches the WHY of trade shows as well as the how.
TSTi has been online since 1996 and draws inquiries from Argentina to Yap. Julia wrote the first web-based training course, "Fundamentals of Trade Shows" and is the author of "The Trade Show Reader - It Takes More Than a Display and a Handshake to Sell at a Trade Show". She speaks frequently and is a marketing consultant with a specialty in trade shows.
And, to overcome being 5'4", she invented Meeting Flag®, the portable signage system.

How Do You Feel About Those "Shoulds"?
by Sandy Karn
I have previously talked about the negative effects of "shoulds"
in your life. This message will discuss only the "shoulds" we
impose upon ourselves.
These are deeply rooted in our values and beliefs, on both a
cognitive level and a visceral level. Actually they are often
rooted in the feelings of guilt we have about not living up to
those values and beliefs. Often the beliefs and values in
question are not really our own. They are beliefs we picked up
from our parents or other authority figures in our lives. In
other instances, the feelings of guilt may result from confusion
about what we really want or value.
When our values are clear and freely chosen, we are much more
likely to act in accordance with them without resistance or
guilt. So if you find yourself putting any "shoulds" on yourself,
take time to explore each "should" in depth. What is the value or
belief that is triggering that "should"? Is it something you
really believe? Are you clear about exactly what you value or
believe and what activities are consistent with that belief? Is
whatever you're feeling guilty about something you really want to
do?
The answers to these questions may allow you to release many of
your "shoulds." You will realize that you have no reason to
impose these burdens on yourself or maintain the feelings of
guilt for not fulfilling them. However there may be some
"shoulds" remaining that really are based upon your own values
and beliefs. These will require more extensive work.
They are tasks or activities that you really believe are
important, yet they don't get done. This generally means that
there is a competing value or belief that is causing you not to
do them. This could be a negative belief about the activity or
its consequences, a stronger belief in something else that
demands your time or simply the feeling that your rest or
leisure is more important. There is no good or bad here. The
idea is to be honest with yourself and identify all the
competing beliefs and values. Then you can make a true choice
without any hidden motives. You will then feel free to release
the "should" or to get to work and get that activity done.
Your goal:
To examine and release the "shoulds" you are imposing on
yourself.
The result:
You will enhance your productivity and effectiveness by not
wasting energy on guilt, worry, and procrastination, directing
this energy toward the accomplishment of your true goals and
objectives.
Your assignment:
Make a list of the "shoulds" that you notice you are imposing
on yourself this week. Take time to examine each "should" to
determine if it is really based upon your own values, beliefs,
and desires. If not, what would it take to release that
"should"? Identify the competing values that are preventing you
from fulfilling those tasks or activities that you really do
want to do.

Ancient Art of Yoga is the Modern Man's/Woman's Savior to Combat Stress
by Francine York
Problems in the modern world can best be alleviated by calling upon the ancient art of Yoga. The practice has been around for thousands of years; but now, more than ever, we need its incredible powers. Just like the home remedies of peoples living centuries ago, Yoga can be incorporated into revitalization of your mind, body and spirit for the 21st century. "The ancient practice of yoga has long been regarded as an effective way of relieving emotional stress, curing bodily ills, and achieving personal equilibrium." 1
Whether you work at home or "out in the world" stresses will get to you from all corners of your life. The trick is not to spend time trying to avoid them…you can't…nobody can; but, rather, we ALL must learn how to deal with the inevitable occurrences of life's stressful situations.
Yoga is free/ inexpensive; can be done without props; needs no special clothing; can be practiced in the home/office; and anyone of any age or physical ability can incorporate Yoga into their lifestyle and be able to reap the myriad benefits. "…yoga helps with all these problems. At the physical level, it gives relief from countless ailments. The practice of postures strengthens the body and creates a feeling of well-being. From the psychological viewpoint, Yoga sharpens the intellect and aids concentration It steadies the emotions and encourages a caring concern for others. Above all, it gives hope."2
I tried Yoga on a lark because it was offered in my school district's adult education program. Caring for my two little grandsons while working from home had left me with fatigue, soreness and a general lack of stamina. What I found, was an enjoyable way to "de-stress", increase flexibility and feel a sense of inner peace. Though hard to believe, the practice of a centuries old art can alleviate the stresses of today, it has helped me immeasurably with the many stresses we "modern" people exhibit. My advice…endeavor to make Yoga a part of your life and your life will be enhanced much more than you can imagine.

Blogs Mean Business
by Steve Rubel
Editors Note: Blogs are becoming essential for business. Steve Rubel is one of our publishing partners who is on the cutting edge of this marketing and communications revolution. Today's insider report includes comments and pointers by Steve that will help you use blogs to enhance your business success.
Blogs are here to stay. At least, that's the growing consensus. How can blogs help you promote your thoughts or business? Share your reactions and insights at WebProWorld.
Blogging as Easy as 1, 2, 3
Thinking about blogging? Here's a new site that makes this all as easy as 1, 2, 3 - it's called Ready, Set, Blog and it's from Mindsay, a blogging platform. They even have a blog on blogging.
JupiterResearch Blogs Reap Business
Jupitermedia CEO Alan Meckler writes that since the company's analysts started writing blogs two years ago, they have had gained several sales leads as because readers have been impressed by the analysts' comments.
Bloglines' Rapid Growth Gives It Great Power
Using publicly available data from Bloglines, Infoworld's John Udell analyzed the subscription trends of several major tech blogs (see chart at left). Udell says he's really not sure how to interpret this because the data suggests that while growth is constant, the rate of growth varies episodically. Despite the nuances, here's what I clearly gleaned - more folks are subscribing to blogs via RSS and they're reading them on Bloglines.
AdminiTrack - Web-Based Issue and Defect Tracking. Try it free for 30 days
As of this writing, more than one third of my 1200 FeedBurner feed readers (420 subscribers) are viewing my blog through Bloglines (see chart at right) - and this number is growing rapidly. As much as I would love to think this ascent is due to what I write on my blog, I actually believe it is because Bloglines is attracting users in droves and is growing like a beanstalk. I have heard from some subscribers that they are ditching their desktop RSS readersFb_1 in favor of Bloglines' simplicity. As much as I love FeedDemon, I too have switched exclusively to Bloglines.
However, with great growth often comes great power. Could Bloglines one day exert the kind of control that Google does? I bet in the near future they might. Especially if they need start monetizing their users or they get swallowed up by a bigger fish.

Unionized Blogging
Here's a novel idea, a union is blogging to get its message out. The L.A. Daily News reports that a major city union this week launched a blog featuring anonymous comments and rumors, many taking direct aim at Mayor James Hahn.
The Engineers and Architects Association, which has endorsed Hahn's challenger, took its campaign to the Internet via a new blog.

A personal message from the publisher...
How I became a proud, single, work at home grandma.
My name is Francine York, publisher of Modern Opportunity Web site and newsletter. I welcome you to what is fast becoming the quintessential business opportunity web site. Not only will you find a wide variety of interesting and profitable opportunities; but you will find services and products as well. Feel free to browse the site and read the many informative articles and columns geared to assisting you in becoming a successful entrepreneur. My email "door" is always open to you; so email me anytime and you will receive a personal reply from me.
And now, about my background and how I came to publish this site and newsletter... Due to budget tightening, my job at a not-for-profit agency was cut back to part time. Because I needed more of an income, I set out looking for a new position. At about the same time, my daughter and son-in-law gave me the wonderful news that they were expecting their first child and my first grandchild! My joy was boundless until the reality of economics deflated my euphoria. My daughter would have to go back to work three months after the baby was born. I started envisioning he/she being cared for by strangers in a day care setting. Fortunately, when I had my three children, I was able to stay at home until the youngest was in full day nursery school; but she could not financially do the same. EUREKA! It suddenly became crystal clear...I would stay home and care for my grandchild. First I headed for my financial advisor to review my finances and see if I could do this. He politely and firmly said, "Get a job, send your grandchild to day care like so many others do; sell your house; giveaway your three dogs; and rent a small apartment, then maybe you can afford to stay home." Needless to say, I was horrified and angry. You see, I had recently separated from my husband of many years and could no longer rely on him to help with the income. The more people told me what a crazy idea this was, the more I was determined to do it! I began looking in the classifieds for home based business opportunities. Most listings were for opportunities for which you needed a great deal of money; and that I would not be able to run from my home. That was not going to do. Unfortunately, at the time, I was not knowledgeable about the myriad business opportunities available which can be operated from the home. Finally, I saw an ad for newspaper for sale. The same week my grandson, Ethan Jacob, was born (May 11, 2002), I became the new owner of a business opportunity newspaper. Since I knew the impact the Internet has on today's existence, I immediately started designing a web site. Today, after a year of changes, improvements, redesign and hard work, the site has grown to over sixty pages with more on the way.
I am a proud, single, work at home grandma now; and loving every minute of it!...and guess what? On March 18, 2004, I became a grandma for the second time...Ryan Caleb!
To give readers, some info about my educational background...I graduated from Brooklyn College, Brooklyn, NY with Bachelor and Masters of Science degrees in the field of education. I spent the next four years teaching in a N.Y.C. public junior high school. Coming next was a move to the "burbs" in 1973 followed by the birth of my third child. When he turned four, I returned to teaching in a Brooklyn High School. The commute, the conditions and having a mother who was quite ill caused me to rethink the teaching profession. I decided that I needed a change, a challenge and to be closer to home. My next venture was opening a retail business...a Hallmark card and gift store on Long Island. Fifteen successful years later, that was sold. Not at all ready to sit idly by and watch the world pass me, I sought a new focus. I found a job working for a small marketing company. Since writing was always my hobby-I have been published several times-I was able to write copy, marketing plans, radio commercials and the like. It was during that time, after many years of marriage, that my husband and I decided to separate. The week after my daughter was married, 8/13/00, I lost my job. Luckily, I was hired to do public relations, write press releases, oversee the computer program, assist with development, etc. for the not-for-profit agency at which I had been volunteering as a crisis counselor since 1995.
My story comes full circle...I am here, it's 2003 and I am a very happy stay at home, single grandma whose mission is to offer money-making opportunities, services, products and essential information so others who desire, or need to, will be empowered and able to stay at home; and they will be able to find all the resources necessary to do just that right here...so, WELCOME and much success in your endeavors!
Thank you for your interest in Modern Opportunity...
