24 Hour Time
I know we have many readers in Europe and I'm sure there's a few
in the military or who just prefer going to bed at 22:00 (10:00
PM) every night. Well, this tip is for you.
First go to Start/Settings/Control Panel and "Regional Options".
Click on "Customize."
Select the "Time" Tab.
Under "Time format" just change the lower case "h" to a double
upper-case "HH" then "Apply" or OK.
And, of course, if you have a computer that you don't want in
24-hour time, just change the time to lower-case h.

U.S. Legislators Move To Ban Social Networking Sites
A bill introduced by Rep. Michael Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.) that aims
to restrict social networking Web sites in schools and libraries
passed the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 410-15.
The Deleting Online Predators Act (DOPA) would require
organizations that receive funds under the federal E-Rate
program to install Internet filters that would block access to
sites such as Facebook and MySpace. The FCC would be
responsible for defining what sites would be covered
by the law. According to the American Library Association
(ALA), about two-thirds of U.S. libraries would be
subject to the law. Supporters of the legislation said
that children who use such Web sites become targets
of sexual predators. Opponents of the law said it is
overly broad and would prevent computer users from
accessing a number of unrelated sites, such as Amazon,
blogs, wikis, and even news sites.
Leslie Burger, president of the ALA, said, "DOPA is redundant
and unnecessary legislation," noting that the Children's
Internet Protection Act already requires institutions to block
Web content considered harmful to children. The bill now goes to
the Senate.

Is Starting An Online Business For You?

Working at home has been a dream of many that goes back many
years. Staying at home and enjoying watching the kids grow up is
a goal worth fighting for.
Let's take a look into making a living or part time living from
the comfort of your home. You owe it to yourself to gain the
freedom a home business can offer.
In the past, there have been multi-level marketing plans to sell
everything from vitamins to soap. There have been mail order
catalog opportunities. Many tried buying and selling real
estate. Each of these opportunities made many people a lot of
money, but each of them also cost many people more money.
More people have spent money than have made money in every
business venture.
The problem is many inexperienced people get into moneymaking
schemes after attending a meeting somewhere. The offer may be
legitimate, but most people fail in business.
According to the US Small Business Administration, over 50% of
small businesses fail in the first year and 95% fail with the
first five years. That is a scary statistic.
This means that the average business is doomed to fail from the
beginning. It also means that you will lose a lot of money if
you start a business. WOW! No wonder you are leery about putting
up your hard-earned cash for what is statically a crapshoot, a
roll of the dice.
So, what is the answer for the average person who does not want
to lose their savings and even their home equity in a business?
Start building a "digital business" online. Create a website
that generates its income without you needing to invest in
inventory or even lease a building to house your business. Then
create two or ten more websites generating income for you.
You may not know how to create a website today. It is an easily
learned skill. There is software you can buy or download free
that will help you. There are tutorials on making a website
profitable. You can do this.
Once you have a website online you can put other people's
advertising on your site and be paid when someone buys one of
their products. This is called affiliate marketing. If this was
my baby toys webpage and I mentioned a great baby toy with a
link to my advertiser's toy page you might go there and buy the
toy. If you did, I would get a commission.
You could also put ads on your pages that only require someone
to click on the ad for you to be paid. Again, if you were on my
baby toy page and an ad talks about a toy. You click on the ad
to go see it and I am paid for you clicking on the ad.
The advertiser feels their sales page is compelling enough for
them to sell enough of that toy to cover their cost of the
clicks that got you there.
Some advertisers do not require you to buy the product when you
click on an ad, but you will not be paid unless you fill out
their application. This is usually seen on sites like insurance
sites or loan application sites. You do not have to get a policy
or take out a loan for me to be paid. When you fill out the
form, I qualify for my commission for sending you to the
advertiser.
These are typically the ways a beginning website entrepreneur
starts generating income on the Internet. Once you understand
that part of internet marketing, you may move on to selling your
own digital products.
A digital product is one that can be downloaded from your
website. You can sell your own ebook you wrote yourself or an
ebook you purchased and have the rights to sell online.
If you are a programmer, you can sell you own computer program
from your site.
You could also sell someone else's program that you purchased
the rights to sell. Notice that not all of the above ideas
require you to invest in a lot of inventory. Even the products
are free if you create them yourself. Not everything you are
doing so far requires a large investment of your hard earned
money. It does require a large investment of your time.
All of the material you need to create a website can be found
free online if you do not want to purchase some popular program.
Your only expense SHOULD be a domain of your own, such as
yourdomain.com. You can get free hosting from various places but
for moneymaking venture, this is not advised.
For a small investment, you too can be PRESIDENT OF YOUR OWN
COMPANY.
Maybe the statistics are the same for success online as they are
in other businesses, but this is a chance to find out without
losing the farm doing it.
The reason most online / home based businesses fail or never
make any money, is because of the lack of a plan. As with a
brick and mortar, offline, business you have to know where you
want to go, how you will get there and when. The old saying,
"those who fail to plan, plan to fail" has never been more true
than building an online business.

Fuel Your Motivation!

Motivation is the essence of what keeps us moving upwards on a
continual path to success. But reality tells us that some days
we are certainly less motivated than we are at other times.
There are many things that factor into our business and personal
lives that cause us to lose our sense of motivation. When our
level of motivation is down, it is difficult to stay focused on
what we need to be doing to initiate and close sales, thus
possibly causing a decline in our bottom line. There are
definitely ways you can fuel your motivation and maintain a
steady pace during your travels.
Start with yourself. Are you happy? Do you enjoy your life? True
happiness starts from within. Discover what makes YOU happy.
Often, the most powerful source of motivation we have on our
side is being able to rise above whatever it is that has brought
us down and determine that we can succeed. Break through the
boundaries you have once established for yourself. Develop the
right attitude and mindset that you can accomplish anything, and
then go do it!
Love your work! It is extremely difficult to motivate yourself
to do something you do not enjoy doing in the first place! Take
a true inventory of how you feel about your work. Is it really
your life's calling? Do you gain great satisfaction out of what
you are doing? Can you visualize yourself doing it every day for
the rest of your life? Discover your passion and make money
pursuing it!
Increase your motivation by expanding on your knowledge. There
are few things more motivating than actually learning something
new. Discover a new concept for doing something related to your
business. Gain a thirst for information and discover ways to
apply what you have learned to your own life and business. The
personal rewards of sharing knowledge with confidence are
phenomenal!
Set your goals high and jump to reach them. Literally sit down
and write on a piece of paper what you want to accomplish. You
might write down one thing, such as "red convertible, BMW." If
the car motivates you, get out there and earn the money to buy
it!
Associate yourself with individuals who are upbeat, positive,
and motivating. People who tend to complain and not find
happiness in any aspect of life are inevitably going to drag you
down with them. Disassociate yourself with negativism. Think
like an optimist and soon you will see a tremendous increase in
your level of motivation. Positive thoughts and attitudes yield
positive results!
Staying motivated only comes from the actions you take in your
own life. Conquer your fears and lack of motivation by stepping
out of the box and taking control of how you really feel. By
continuously fueling your motivation, you will improve your
sense of direction, gain solid ground with your target audience,
and expand your marketing efforts by leaps and bounds . . . all
of which result in increasing your bottom line!

How to Clean Your LCD Screen By Peter Vermeeren
All types of equipment have LCD monitors; that include GPS display
panels, laptops, car PCs or carputers, vehicle dash board screens,
portable debit card machines, industrial hand held devices etc. All
these gadgets require cleaning of display screens because of dirt,
dust and fingerprints over a period of time. LCD screens are very
sensitive and require special care. You do not want to use some thing
that may end up damaging the LCD screen. We all know that LCD monitors
are fairly expensive and to replace a damaged one will haunt you
for your mistake of using the wrong cleaner. If you own LCD
equipment and are in a quandary about cleaning; we would like to
make some suggestions about " How to clean your LCD screen"?
One of the most important rules of "How to clean your LCD screen" is that
you do not just pick up any type of cleaner like soap or liquids meant
for window cleaning. Car windshield washer is another one in the same
category. Detergents can damage the surface of LCD screen because they
are harsh in nature and contain chemicals that are not desirable for this
purpose. LCD monitors are delicate in nature and are designed with surface
that has a combination of anti-glare and brightness qualities. It is
because of these properties that we are able to view extraordinary
sharpness of picture quality.
Basically, we want to go with a product that will not affect the anti-glare
coating on the LCD screen. Some of the important things to watch out for are
that the LCD screen cleaner should be free from ammonia and alcohol because
both of these chemicals are not suitable for the LCD monitor surface. These
chemicals tend to erode the anti-glare finish on your LCD screen and even
reduce the quality of brightness. We all know that static build up on any
type of surface is a major contributing factor for dirt build up. The other
important feature to look for is the anti-static property of the product you
are going to pick for "how to clean your LCD screen". This can greatly reduce
the accumulation of dust and dirt on your LCD TV or other LCD monitors thereby
minimizing the frequency of cleaning process. This can eventually diminish
the wear and tear on the LCD surface over a long time period.
Well the exercise of "how to clean your LCD screen" does not end here with
selection of appropriate liquid cleaner. Now comes the question of what to use
as an appropriate medium for wiping that will work well with the right kind of
cleaning liquid. Certainly, you cannot use paper towels or other ordinary cloths.
The inherent abrasive nature of these materials can ruin the LCD screen surface
in spite of using a good quality cleaning product. One of the best products
available in the market for this purpose is the "micro fiber clothe" that is
perfectly suited for the cleaning of LCD surface.
This state of the art product is specially designed to be totally non-abrasive
and is well suited to clean delicate surfaces like LCD screens without leaving
any streaks. We sincerely hope that this information will help you. Let's finish
the exercise of "how to clean your LCD screen" by adding that these cleaning
agents are available in the market at reasonable prices and it does not make any
sense to resort to measures that may prove to be destructive for your LCD
equipment.

A personal message from the publisher...
How I became a proud, single, work at home grandma. 
My name is Francine York, publisher of Modern Opportunity
Web site and newsletter. I welcome you to what is fast becoming the quintessential
business opportunity web site. Not only will you find a wide variety of interesting
and profitable opportunities; but you will find services and products as well. Feel
free to browse the site and read the many informative articles and columns geared to
assisting you in becoming a successful entrepreneur. My email "door" is always open to you;
so email me anytime and you will receive a personal

And now, about my background and how I came to publish this site and newsletter...
Due to budget tightening, my job at a not-for-profit agency was cut back to part time. Because I
needed more of an income, I set out looking for a new position. At about the same time, my daughter
and son-in-law gave me the wonderful news that they were expecting their first child and my first
grandchild! My joy was boundless until the reality of economics deflated my euphoria. My daughter
would have to go back to work three months after the baby was born. I started envisioning he/she
being cared for by strangers in a day care setting. Fortunately, when I had my three children, I
was able to stay at home until the youngest was in full day nursery school; but she could not
financially do the same.
EUREKA! It suddenly became crystal clear...I would stay home and care
for my grandchild. First I headed for my financial advisor to review my finances and
see if I could do this. He politely and firmly said, "Get a job, send your grandchild to day care
like so many others do; sell your house; giveaway your three dogs; and rent a small apartment, then
maybe you can afford to stay home." Needless to say, I was horrified and angry. You see, I had
recently separated from my husband of many years and could no longer rely on him to help with the
income.
The more people told me what a crazy idea this was, the more I was determined to do it!
I began looking in the classifieds for home based business opportunities. Most listings were for
opportunities for which you needed a great deal of money; and that I would not be able to run from
my home. That was not going to do. Unfortunately, at the time, I was not knowledgeable about the
myriad business opportunities available which can be operated from the home. Finally, I saw an ad
for newspaper for sale. The same week my grandson, Ethan Jacob, was born (May 11, 2002), I became
the new owner of a business opportunity newspaper. Since I knew the impact the Internet has on today's
existence, I immediately started designing a web site. Today, after several years of changes, improvements,
redesign and hard work, the site has grown to over seventy-five pages with more on the way.
I am a proud, single, work at home grandma now; and loving every minute of it!...and guess what?
On March 18, 2004, I became a grandma for the second time...Ryan Caleb!
To give readers, some info about my educational background...I graduated from
Brooklyn College, Brooklyn, NY with Bachelor and Masters of Science degrees in the field of education.
I spent the next four years teaching in a N.Y.C. public junior high school. Coming next was a move
to the "burbs" in 1973 followed by the birth of my third child. When he turned four, I returned to
teaching in a Brooklyn High School. The commute, the conditions and having a mother who was quite ill
caused me to rethink the teaching profession. I decided that I needed a change, a challenge
and to be closer to home. My next venture was opening a retail business...a Hallmark card and
gift store on Long Island. Fifteen successful years later, that was sold. Not at all ready to
sit idly by and watch the world pass me, I sought a new focus. I found a job working for a small
marketing company. Since writing was always my hobby-I have been published several times-I was
able to write copy, marketing plans, radio commercials and the like. It was during that time,
after many years of marriage, that my husband and I decided to separate. The week after my
daughter was married, 8/13/00, I lost my job. Luckily, I was hired to do public relations,
write press releases, oversee the computer program, assist with development, etc. for the
not-for-profit agency at which I had been volunteering as a crisis counselor since 1995.
My story comes full circle... I am a very happy
stay at home, single grandma whose mission is to offer money-making opportunities, services,
products and essential information so others who desire, or need to, will be empowered and
able to stay at home; and they will be able to find all the resources necessary to do just
that right here...so, WELCOME and much success in your endeavors!
