Program Registration
When entering the serial number for a program you're installing,
use the number keys that are above the letter keys on your
keyboard. Sometimes the numbers on the keypad at the right side
of your keyboard are interpreted as different characters. This
will prevent the serial number from being accepted even though
it looks right.
If the serial number was sent to you via email, copy and paste
it and you can be sure it is right.
A second Tip of the Month...
History File
Every time you visit a web site, your browser stores the site
address (and all the pages visited on that site) in a history
file. This comes in really handy when you're trying to remember
the URL of the site you were visiting the other day, or if you
want to check up on what sites were visited by your kids.
With Internet Explorer, Netscape, and Firefox you can hit CTRL+H
to view history.

eBay Scams To Watch Out For!

There are many eBay scams out there to keep an eye out for when you are
selling on eBay. This article will cover a few of the known and not so
known scams to be aware of. Whether your a causal seller, or a professional
seller on eBay, you need to know about these scams so that you can take
measures to prevent or recognize if its happening to you.
Bid Shielding
This scam is something you need to watch out for as a seller on eBay. Basically
the scam is run using two separate eBay accounts. The scam works like this. You
put your item up for auction. Lets say your item is worth $100 and you have no
reserve. The first bidder (scammer) comes along and bids $5 on your item. Right
after that, another bidder working with the first bidder comes along and bids
$200 on your item. Since your item is only worth $100, you receive no more bids
for the duration of your auction. Right before your auction ends, the first bidder
backs out and cancels their bid, leaving the $5 bidder the winner, effectively
shielding all other potential bidders because of the $200 bid.
Because of the potential for this scam it is always good to have a reserve on
your auction. Also, I would put some sort of disclaimer on your auction stating
that if you suspect bid shielding on your auction, you reserve the right to back
out of the sale. Its always a good idea to keep an eye on your auctions and watch
for this type of behavior. If you suspect this is happening to you, be sure to
report the parties involved to eBay right away.
Wholesale List Scam
This scam takes advantage of the fact that many people dont pay close attention
or read the fine print on an auction. This scam is targeted at buyers who are
looking for deals on electronics and technological items on eBay. The wholesale
list scam is basically an auction that looks like the seller is offering a great
deal on a product like an iPod for example. They may have a buy now price of $40
for an iPod that is worth $150. However, if you actually read the fine print
on the auction, you will find that you are not really buying the iPod. In fact
you are purchasing a wholesale list.
To avoid this scam, just be sure that you read the entire details of the auction
before making a bid or a purchase. Basically, just use common sense. If it looks
too good to be true, it probably is, so read the auction carefully.
Bad Check Scam
This eBay scam is exactly what it sounds like. The bad check scam is simple.
Someone purchases your item and sends you a check as payment. You receive the
check, and send out the item. However, 2 weeks later you find out the check
bounces and now you are out your item and the money.
To avoid this, simply do not send out any products until the check has cleared.
Spoof eBay Emails
This eBay scam is an attempt to get your personal information and/or eBay
account information. Basically the scammer sends you an email that looks
like its from eBay. The email may direct you to a website (that also looks
like eBay) where it asks to you verify your information. In reality, the
website is created by the scammer to collect your personal information and
use it for identity theft. The scammers can be very tricky and make
everything look very official.
To avoid this scam, you need to be wary of any emails that you get. The
first thing you need to check is the email header. Emails from eBay, will
have ebay.com as the last part of the senders email. Also any links that
are in the email may be directing you somewhere other than where they
say they are. Also copy and paste the links into your browser, and only
visit official links that start with eBay. If anything seems suspicious
to you, forward the email to eBay and wait for their response. They will
let you know if its legitimate or not.
In conclusion, most people you run into on eBay are good honest people and
not out to scam you. You may do business on eBay for years and never run into
any of this. However, occasionally these things do happen so its important to
use common sense and use your best judgment when it comes to this stuff. Just
be aware that it can happen, and take the necessary precautions and you will
be fine. There is a lot of money to be made on eBay, so dont let anything
scare you off. Keep yourself armed with knowledge and information and you
will be successful out there in the auction world!

When first starting out to make money on the Internet, the first
thing you should do is to get as much information as you can so
that mistakes or loss of money can be kept to a minimum.
The first thing to learn is not to be taken in by all the hype
that is out on the Internet. Sure the advert makes the product
look so attractive that you can't wait to buy it. My advice is
wait.
The information or product will still be there the next week or
next month. Calm down and wait for a few days before whipping
out your credit card. Read reviews and think to yourself "Is
this what I really want to buy?" Ask, "Is this something I
really need?"
The next thing you have to consider is what you're going to
sell. Would other people want to buy the product? After deciding
on what you are going to sell whether it's an affiliate product
or your own product, you have to create a website to display and
sell your product.
First write down on paper the content of the sales page and
other information which you want on your website. With all this
information, go to websites that will custom develop websites
for you, or learn to create websites yourself. Make sure your
website captures the visitors' email address. I will explain the
why later on.
Your third task is to buy or use tools which will help you in

A personal message from the publisher...
How I became a proud, single, work at home grandma. 
My name is Francine York, publisher of Modern Opportunity
Web site and newsletter. I welcome you to what is fast becoming the quintessential
business opportunity web site. Not only will you find a wide variety of interesting
and profitable opportunities; but you will find services and products as well. Feel
free to browse the site and read the many informative articles and columns geared to
assisting you in becoming a successful entrepreneur. My email "door" is always open to you;
so email me anytime and you will receive a personal
reply from me.
And now, about my background and how I came to publish this site and newsletter...
Due to budget tightening, my job at a not-for-profit agency was cut back to part time. Because I
needed more of an income, I set out looking for a new position. At about the same time, my daughter
and son-in-law gave me the wonderful news that they were expecting their first child and my first
grandchild! My joy was boundless until the reality of economics deflated my euphoria. My daughter
would have to go back to work three months after the baby was born. I started envisioning he/she
being cared for by strangers in a day care setting. Fortunately, when I had my three children, I
was able to stay at home until the youngest was in full day nursery school; but she could not
financially do the same.
EUREKA! It suddenly became crystal clear...I would stay home and care
for my grandchild. First I headed for my financial advisor to review my finances and
see if I could do this. He politely and firmly said, "Get a job, send your grandchild to day care
like so many others do; sell your house; giveaway your three dogs; and rent a small apartment, then
maybe you can afford to stay home." Needless to say, I was horrified and angry. You see, I had
recently separated from my husband of many years and could no longer rely on him to help with the
income.
The more people told me what a crazy idea this was, the more I was determined to do it!
I began looking in the classifieds for home based business opportunities. Most listings were for
opportunities for which you needed a great deal of money; and that I would not be able to run from
my home. That was not going to do. Unfortunately, at the time, I was not knowledgeable about the
myriad business opportunities available which can be operated from the home. Finally, I saw an ad
for newspaper for sale. The same week my grandson, Ethan Jacob, was born (May 11, 2002), I became
the new owner of a business opportunity newspaper. Since I knew the impact the Internet has on today's
existence, I immediately started designing a web site. Today, after several years of changes, improvements,
redesign and hard work, the site has grown to over seventy-five pages with more on the way.
I am a proud, single, work at home grandma now; and loving every minute of it!...and guess what?
On March 18, 2004, I became a grandma for the second time...Ryan Caleb!
To give readers, some info about my educational background...I graduated from
Brooklyn College, Brooklyn, NY with Bachelor and Masters of Science degrees in the field of education.
I spent the next four years teaching in a N.Y.C. public junior high school. Coming next was a move
to the "burbs" in 1973 followed by the birth of my third child. When he turned four, I returned to
teaching in a Brooklyn High School. The commute, the conditions and having a mother who was quite ill
caused me to rethink the teaching profession. I decided that I needed a change, a challenge
and to be closer to home. My next venture was opening a retail business...a Hallmark card and
gift store on Long Island. Fifteen successful years later, that was sold. Not at all ready to
sit idly by and watch the world pass me, I sought a new focus. I found a job working for a small
marketing company. Since writing was always my hobby-I have been published several times-I was
able to write copy, marketing plans, radio commercials and the like. It was during that time,
after many years of marriage, that my husband and I decided to separate. The week after my
daughter was married, 8/13/00, I lost my job. Luckily, I was hired to do public relations,
write press releases, oversee the computer program, assist with development, etc. for the
not-for-profit agency at which I had been volunteering as a crisis counselor since 1995.
My story comes full circle... I am a very happy
stay at home, single grandma whose mission is to offer money-making opportunities, services,
products and essential information so others who desire, or need to, will be empowered and
able to stay at home; and they will be able to find all the resources necessary to do just
that right here...so, WELCOME and much success in your endeavors!
