Send the Elevator Back Down
by Rachelle Disbennett-Lee
Success is a great experience and something that takes time,
dedication and work. It also usually takes support from others.
No one accomplishes much on his or her own. Even if all that
means is we have people who believe in us and cheer us on, it
takes a collaborate effort for each one of us to be successful.
It can be easy to forget from whence we came. Once we get to the
top, we can forget what it took to get there and perhaps the
people that are still where we used to be. When we become
successful, it is important that we support those coming behind
us to also be successful. Once we get to the top, we need to
"Send the elevator back down" to give those behind us support to
get to the top too. There is plenty of room for all of us to be
successful. And the more successful each one of us becomes, th e
better off all of us will be.
Unfortunately, I haven't seen the elevator being sent down as
much as it could be. Sometimes, those who get to the top are
fearful of those coming behind. They don't want the competition.
There is even a situation referred to as "the Queen Bee syndrome"
where women are fearful of helping other women succeed for fear
that they will be replaced by a woman they help. If we all
operate from the belief that there is more than enough to go
around, our fear can be replaced by the sense of doing somethi ng
that benefits everyone in the long run.
One of the most important things to do in life, in my opinion, is
mentor someone. I believe it is a privilege and an obligation to
support others in achieving their desired success. When someone
is new to the field and just starting out, it can be da unting.
There is usually so much to learn and understand that having
someone to support and encourage us on our way is essential. It
is always easier when two people row the boat. When we are both
rowing, we both will go further than we would alone.
I volunteered with a local organization to coach women who had
found themselves on the other side of the economic curve. For
many reasons, these women were in positions where they were
challenged to support themselves and their families. I was
assigned to a young woman who had a small child, no job and no
place to live. I mentored this young woman for three years. At
the end of that time she had graduated from junior college, moved
into her own apartment, and had a good job with room to grow.
When I began mentoring this young woman, I thought I was going to
teach her a lot. Was I ever wrong? She is the one who taught me.
I still marvel at how much I received from this relationship.
That is the beauty of supporting others. In the process we also
grow, learn and receive unbelievable gifts.
At every opportunity, send the elevator back down. This can be
done in many ways. Provide informational interviews, mentor a new
member of the organization or perhaps spend time at a local high
school sharing what it takes to be successful. There are many
ways to lend support. When we help someone reach her or his goals
and dreams, we make a world of difference.

Why Lurk When You Can Lead?
by Rozey Gean
On-line business networking communities are springing up right
and left. Scores of entrepreneurs are joining in an effort to
exchange among the membership and to utilize these phenomenal
cyber groups to grow their businesses.
Unfortunately, a great number of entrepreneurs never reap the
full benefits of their membership in these communities because
they remain in "lurk" status for whatever reason. The term lurker
simply refers to an individual who signs up, receives and reads
all of the messages posted to the list or bulletin board, but
chooses not to respond or participate.
I know that you may be thinking, "Well, isn't the lurker actually
learning from others who do participate?" To a certain extent,
the lurker will learn something, even if it is by mistake.
However, the lurker will probably never grow his/her business
based on effective networking techniques if he/she fails to
actively network. By remaining in lurk status, the businessperson
fails to become an active participant in the group. The lurker
may take advantage of the opportunity to learn about his fellow
networkers within the community, but his fellow networkers may
never realize he/she exists. Therefore, he/she never actually
shares in the wealth, but only reads about the success of his/her
fellow members.
The concept of the on-line business networking community is to
bring together a group of entrepreneurs who can work as a group
to promote themselves and each other as they grow and develop
their businesses through the exchange of information. Each member
of the group possesses certain talents and services that are
offered within the group. The networking circle would ideally
benefit by each member contributing a certain amount of knowledge
and know-how in areas of need. For instance, if I happen to
require assistance in setting up a database for my newsletter
subscribers, another member may be able to walk me through the
procedures step by step. Should a member need to hire someone to
create a new logo for her business, I may recall the name of a
member who creates logos for a living and therefore can refer the
logo designer.
For these communities to work effectively, it is crucial for each
member to become an active participant. Sad to say, the number of
lurkers far exceeds the number of leaders in these on-line
groups. One major reason that lurkers choose to remain behind the
scenes is because they are somewhat frightened to speak up for
the first time, fearing they will say the wrong thing or may not
be accepted by their new group of peers. Many are afraid of
asking the wrong question or giving out bad advice or
information. Allow me to stress, THERE ARE NO WRONG QUESTIONS! In
the beginning, we all started out asking questions and looking to
others for the answers. The seasoned members of the networking
group are more than happy to serve as mentors to those who are
just starting out in their business. Professional advice is there
for the taking -- you need only to ask for it.
Active leaders and members of on-line communities should realize
that the only way that the entire group will ever grow and
prosper as individuals is when each member of the group becomes
active in their participation. If you are a lurker, you will only
benefit by getting to know the members of your group, sharing
your expertise and knowledge with the group, and establishing
your credibility in your field. As a leader, your job is to
encourage lurkers to step forward and become a vital participant
of the group so that the group can gain strength in its numbers
as a credible and viable networking community.
Success will only come to those who are willing to shed their
shyness, step out of the closet, and transform into a community
participant! By becoming a leader yourself, you can experience
the same level of success as your fellow networking leaders!

Are you an Emerging Champion?
by Dr Jill Ammon-Wexler
In terms of life success, there are four pretty obvious levels of
accomplishment: First is the class of the current winners those
who have figured out what they what they want, and are taking
focused action to attain their goals.
On the far end of the "level of accomplishment" measuring stick
is the class of non-players those who have yet realized their
own potential.
But in between are two very interesting additional classes: One
is the class of emerging winners those who have grabbed onto a
goal, and are beginning to take focused action to shape their own
lives.
The other is the class of potential winners - folks whose beliefs
are not yet in total alignment with success. They may have hit a
tough bump in the road that knocked them off-course, or perhaps
just need to make an adjustment to their self-concept.
Are you an Emerging Winner?
You already know if you are an emerging winner. You can feel the
fire and excitement of pursuing what you want. And you know that
the only thing that can stop you is your own beliefs.
Probably you're also discovering the amazing power of networking
with other winners and emerging winners. There is a reason we are
judged by the company we keep because responding to that company
helps mold our own behavior and responses to life.
And chances are you are also in process of creating your own way
in the world of business or are seriously thinking of doing so.
This is one of the common hallmarks of emerging winners, and is
an exciting part of their path.
Are you a Potential Winner?
Potential winners are easily identifiable. They are always
searching. They read self-help books, attend motivational
seminars, and buy and listen to inspirational tapes -- believing
sooner or later they will figure out how to create the life they
desire.
They realize they have untapped talents and potentials, but may
not have yet discovered how to convert their beliefs into
actions!
Are you a potential winner? Your transition from being a
potential winner to an emerging winner is along the path of
action.
The most empowering thing to do is this: Break out of your
comfort zone, and take action to move your life to the next level
of accomplishment.
Growth involves change. And let's face it, change is sometimes
uncomfortable. Moving from the *theory* of personal
transformation to the *action* of personal transformation will
cause some turbulence in your life.
Just identify at least one pressing reason why you cannot just
yield to your fears. Remind yourself of why you want to change.
Sometimes avoidance of a undesirable negative condition can be
even more powerful than longing for a positive change. Use that
reason to drive yourself past your fear and doubt.
Are you a Non-Player?
Do you think you're a non-player? I doubt that's true, since you
would never have been attracted to this article if it were so.
If you have a deep sense of restlessness and dissatisfaction with
life, you are likely on the path to change and personal
empowerment. That's how it all starts for one becoming a
potential winner.
Something inside yourself knows there are possibilities out
there, and is encouraging you to reach out and claim more of your
potential.
Actually this is a very good sign it's time to move up into the
class of the potential winners and go to work to manifest more
of who you can become. Go for it.

Personal Life Coach
Too much to do, too little time
by Aurelia Williams
Have you ever felt like someone just pressed the Fast-forward button on your day and before you know it the day is over and you are sitting there wondering what you've accomplished? I love to organize and with working Part Time outside of the home and FULL-TIME at home with my business, 4 children and Husband I really rely on a schedule and many time management tips to keep my sanity (ok, so some of you think I am already insane, I won't argue with that) but at least I am organized ;)
Here are a few of my favorite Time management Tips:
1. Meal Planning: Try planning 1 - 2 weeks worth of meals at a time and write them down on a calendar. Do your shopping accordingly and prep tomorrows dinner today. You will be AMAZED at what a time saver this is.
2. To-Do Lists: I know most people HATE them but they actually do work. Just take a few moments out of your day (either in the morning or in the evening) to make a list for that day or the following day. Be sure to only put down the items that you MUST finish on this list.
3. Delegate: Do you have friends, a husband, children that can pitch in and do a few things for you? If so, be sure to use all of your resources.
4. Morning Rush: Scooting the children out of the door can be a huge time eater! Be sure to prepare lunches, lay out clothes and plan your breakfast the night before. This will make your mornings run a tad smoother.
5. Just say "NO"!: Such a small word that carries a might punch! If you truly can't fit something into your schedule and it is not urgent, just say No!. Keep a list of non-urgent things that you can do on hand for when you do have some down time.
Well, those are just a few of my time management tips. I personally set aside about 15 minutes a night and sit down with my Palm Pilot and make a short TO-DO list for the following day and it is amazing at the time this save.
Also be mindful of your own body. Are you a morning, afternoon or night person? Try to schedule your most time consuming tasks when you have the most energy.

The Strength of the "Weaker Sex"!
by Donna Primoluka
Women comprise more than half of the population, yet was there
ever a more misunderstood group? They are characterized in the
western world as either crybabies or people who try too hard to
be tough. There never seems to be any middle ground when it
comes to women. They are thought to have special abilities, and
in some cultures those are a blessing. In other cultures, they
are a curse and yet they have the same abilities. Revered and
feared, what is this power held by "the fairer sex" and will men ever understand it?
Early societies tended to be matriarchies - led by a powerful
female figure. It was even so in primitive cultures where women
not only raised children of the tribe in a communal setting but
they also tended to do most of the farming, food preparation and
storage. While men went off to hunt the women tended the crops
and made sure the camps were kept in order and tents in good
repair. Patriarchies are a relatively new invention, and even today in less developed countries, women lead the tribal groups in many ways. Interestingly, in many American minority cultures, women still
hold the place of power in the neighborhood and the home.
Women in some societies were much more than food and comfort
providers. The birth of a girl was considered to be a sign of
expanding kingdom by the royalty. This was so because the girls
were wedded to the princes of neighboring kingdoms thus creating
kinship and union. This in turn sealed the land deals and made
the kingdom more secure. Even the early Greeks had a pantheon
full of female deities. Also Rome, the first patriarchal society,
had many female gods who were of equal stature to the male ones
in their pantheon. In fact the legendary women warriors of Amazon
used men for breeding and slavery.
Even though the influence of women seems to take a slight dip in
the west, women still make one of the most powerful demographics.
Women, as single parents are influencing entire generations to
come. Studies reveal that in most American households, women are
responsible for the checkbook and for paying the monthly bills.
Women are able to make as much in terms of salary as their male
counterparts, thanks to the women's groups which made it happen.
Now, women have an option to stay at home and raise kids, or to
Look forward to satisfying careers in business. A man can be the head of the family, but then according to a Greek proverb, woman forms the neck and has the power to turn the head according to her
wish.
It's still surprising that women are called the "weaker sex".
Even the survival rate of female babies is better than that of
male babies, and women live longer than men do overall.
Throughout time, women have gone up and down in influence and
power. They have been revered, shunned, worshiped, and despised.
In fact, every baby starts out female in the womb. Then through
the effects of a hormone, some become male instead. Is woman
really a "weaker sex"?
