WSI Introduces International Internet Consultant Advisory Council
Toronto, Canada
WSI's Toronto-based headquarters announces the creation of an Internet Consultant Leadership Advisory Council to create additional value for their worldwide network of Internet Consultants (ICs). This new initiative affirms WSI's ongoing commitment to understanding the various needs and opportunities of its Internet Consultants and will enhance communication within the network so as to improve the allocation of resources to better meet the needs of the system and enable even greater growth and success.
The Council, made up of 12 Internet Consultants representing WSI's major global markets, has been selected via a network-wide nomination process. The selected Council members represent: Canada, Central/South America, Europe, New Zealand/Australia, the UK and Ireland and the United States. They will hold their seats on the Council for a minimum of 1 year during which they will solicit the feedback and suggestions from groups of ICs in the regions they represent.
The structure of the Council has been established to facilitate the flow of information and innovation, in both directions, between WSI's Home Office and its international network of Internet Consultants serving over 1000 local markets worldwide. Meetings of the Council will function as forums for presenting and discussing matters that concern the entire network and enable the open sharing of information. Areas of focus will include promoting better communication within the WSI e-Marketplace, improving relationships, facilitating cooperation on marketing and advertising, enhancing business operations, training, as well as product introduction, selection and development. It is the role of the Council to evaluate recommendations and innovations from around the world and use this input to contribute to exploiting new opportunities and furthering WSI's objective of being the number one provider of Internet Solutions to small- and medium-sized business customers.
Building on WSI's global reach with a local presence approach to business, the Council will help WSI's Home Office gain more insight into regional market needs, and proactively anticipate issues its local Internet Consultants may face. Working from these insights, Council members will act in an advisory capacity in the rollout of new initiatives, thereby improving the effectiveness of the network as a whole.
The first meeting of the Council will take place on Monday, May 30th in Toronto, Canada. Future meetings are scheduled to coincide with WSI's Excellence and Innovation Conferences, where its Internet Consultants convene to celebrate achievements and share their best-practices and innovations with the entire network.
WSI President Ron McArthur recently shared his enthusiasm about the Internet Consultant Advisory Council with the WSI network: "I am sincerely pleased at the tremendous response this new initiative has garnered from the IC community throughout the nomination process and in the feedback we continue to receive, and, I am excited to begin working with the 12 outstanding ICs that make up this Council. I have no doubt that this collaborative effort will reap incredible results for the entire network."

Something's 'Phishy' Online: Avoiding the Bait of Online Scams
Toronto, Canada
Phishing, the practice of luring unsuspecting victims to disclose personal information online, has quickly become the fastest-growing security threat to Internet users. Governments, businesses and individuals worldwide are taking this threat seriously, as are WSI Internet Consultants who are prepared to help their clients avoid falling victim to this and other forms of online scams.
The objective of the phishing scam is to collect sensitive information to commit identity theft and run up bills, empty bank accounts or commit crimes in the victim's name. Phishers accomplish this by sending emails or pop-up messages under the guise of a legitimate business; banks, online payment services, Internet service providers, even government organizations. Recipients are solicited to submit personal information in order to "validate" or "update" their account information or face dire consequences.
Phishing is particularly insidious as it exploits Internet-based technology to track the activities of Internet users; identifying the businesses or organizations a particular target deals with, and thereby lending credibility to the scam and increasing the potential that the target will divulge the information desired. Phishers have been known to collect information using dummy-sites developed to fool targeted individuals into believing these are legitimate sites of trusted businesses or organizations.
To avoid falling victim to this and other online scams, Internet users are being warned to be cautious with whom they do business online and to never transmit sensitive information via email. Emails or pop-up messages that ask for personal information should be deleted, and users should never open attachments or click on links that seem suspicious or are sent from individuals or companies not known to them. Credit card statements should also be checked as soon as they are received and any dubious charges investigated through the provider. Anti-virus software and firewalls can also protect you from unintentionally accepting phishing emails or pop-ups which often also contain spyware or viruses.
The FTC (Federal Trade Commission) is actively investigating the threat of phishing and Internet Service Providers, led by AOL are working towards preventing this activity online. These organizations continue to identify and limit the access of Phishers to the online community, instigating legal action when appropriate.
As leading Internet experts serving small- to medium-sized businesses worldwide, WSI is doing its part to protect its clients by continually educating its Internet Consultants on this and other security threats. "We strongly believe that the only way to fully protect yourself is to understand and be able to identify the threats you face so that you can take the necessary precautions to avoid being victimized," explains Christopher Booth, WSI's VP of Enterprise Technology Services. "The information and support we give our Internet Consultants enables them to ensure that their clients are safeguarded from phishing and other Internet-based threats."

WSI's VP of Knowledge Management Tagged as Expert in Web Accessibility, 7/20/2005
Toronto, Canada
In an article entitled "Empowering the disabled with Web Accessibility" written by Mari-Len De Guzman of IT World Canada (19 Jul 2005), Valerie Brown, Vice President, Knowledge Management, WSI was extensively quoted on Web accessibility and what it means to business.
The IT World article states: "The UK, Australia and France are pioneering Web accessibility initiatives through domestic legislation. In these countries, Web site owners are mandated to provide a level of Web accessibility, according to Valerie Brown, Vice-President, Knowledge Management at WSI, a Toronto-based Internet consulting firm."
The article goes on to quote: "WSI is offering Web accessibility as an option to clients building a Web site."
"When serving our clients, we come to them with the latest information like accessibility, making sure that if there is legislation that they need to abide by, that we can build that for them. Or, if there is no [accessibility] legislation, at least help them understand that it is coming and that at certain point we may have to build or upgrade their Web site to be accessible", Brown said.
The IT World article will appear in Computer World Canada, Network World Canada and Network World US (with changes for the US market).
WSI Corporate will be sending an informational press release to all of our markets the week of August 15, 2005. Stay tuned for more coverage on this important topic.

Observatoire de la Franchise Interviews WSI President, 9/30/2005
Toronto, Canada
Observatoire de la Franchise is a leading supplier of information regarding franchising for the French speaking market in Europe. With a listing of over 700 global franchises, complete with analysis of the key selling points of each, the website www.observatoiredelafranchise.fr receives over 200,000 visitors a month. In their ongoing effort to assist individuals considering franchising as a business opportunity, L'Observatoire recently interviewed WSI President, Ron McArthur, regarding his experiences as part of the WSI family. The interview quickly turned to the future of the Internet and WSI's position within its evolution.
Interviewer Rodolphe Hatchadourian was particularly intrigued to find out what makes WSI not only the largest global network of its kind, but also the #1 Internet services business in the world. In response, Mr. McArthur touched on the Internet's limitless potential, how the Internet has become essential to doing business anywhere and everywhere, the quality of WSI franchisees (Internet Consultants) and the strong infrastructure in place to support the entire network. This was followed by a brief outline of the key services that WSI Internet Consultants provide to their small and medium-sized business clients.
The conversation soon turned to WSI's global vision of the Internet and its evolution. And, while the evolution of the Internet can scarcely be pinpointed on account of the fact that no other medium or technology has ever experienced such widespread adoption or immense evolution in the history of time, Mr. McArthur was quick to point out that the Internet will undoubtedly gain in popularity and businesses will continue to rely on this medium for their prosperity - even their survival - amidst the developing global economy.
In closing, Mr. McArthur outlined WSI's approach to the French market in Europe and noted that the organization is also turning its' sights on Japan and China as important emerging markets.
